Following the Egyptian acknowledgment that the attack at Damietta port two days ago was carried out by a UAV, the Lebanese newspaper "Al-Akhbar" reports from Egyptian sources involved in the details that a series of discussions took place in Cairo in recent hours within state institutions aimed at assessing the military, economic, and political implications of the attack, examining possible courses of action in light of the event, the expected scenarios, and evaluating the message that Cairo wants to emphasize outward, in order to calm the Egyptian public and the market, and to avoid leading to a new regional escalation. The sources stated that Egypt wants to identify who carried out the attack, examine how it was conducted, the UAV's flight path, and the failures in its identification and air defense, but also to try to maintain energy supply to Egypt and prevent the attack from leading to escalation in the region, and therefore the Egyptian authorities refrained from blaming any party for the attack. According to these sources, Cairo wants "not to preempt the results of the investigation, or tie the events to any party before there is evidence," as any accusation without basis could impose commitments on Egypt that do not align with the current Egyptian policy aimed at containing escalation in the region. The Egyptians are convinced that any further escalation will directly impact the security of navigation in the Red Sea, the Suez Canal, energy supply to Egypt, and the local economy, and therefore refrain from blaming Iran or any of its proxy organizations. Additionally, a recent increase in the import of Israeli gas from Egypt was announced, within the existing agreements between the two countries. The sources in Cairo told the newspaper that this is a "technical matter related to energy security, and is not tied to Egypt's political positions," and added that "Egypt does not want the incident in Damietta to drag political positions that would serve Israel's goals in the conflict with the Iranians." @OmerShahar123
