In this edition, we report: Against the backdrop of their recent attacks, Saudi Arabia attempted to enlist the U.S. to lead the campaign against the Houthis in Yemen, but Washington expressed a willingness to support the effort rather than lead it. A source connected to forces opposing the Houthis in Yemen, who is in contact with Americans, revealed in a conversation with Kan News that during a meeting mid-month between Saudi Crown Prince Salman and U.S. Central Command Commander Bradley Cooper, the Saudi prince requested that the Americans take the lead in the campaign against the Houthis. However, it appears the Americans are less enthusiastic about this, and the response Salman received was that Washington is prepared to support a Saudi military operation against the Houthis, but not to lead the campaign, especially since the Houthis are currently not directing their fire at U.S. vessels in the Red Sea, focusing instead on Saudi ships. The dynamics described here mainly show us how much the Saudis do not want to get bogged down in the Yemeni quagmire in light of their past experiences and prefer that the Americans do the work for them, as well as how much the Americans, preoccupied with the Iranian issue, are less inclined to lead another front in the Middle East. At least for now, the Houthis are taking full advantage of this.
