A commander in the naval branch of Iran's Revolutionary Guards told the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, associated with Hezbollah, anonymously this morning that Iran's response to any attempt to seize the islands around the Strait of Hormuz will be beyond all expectations, and that in addition to focusing on reclaiming the islands in such a case, there will be an unprecedented response that will break all previous red lines: "One should expect a historic response if such an attack begins, with no target in our target bank being safe, whether small or large." The same Iranian commander dismissed the possibility of a successful American attempt to seize the islands and open the Strait of Hormuz by force: "The American army will not be able to establish its presence on the Iranian islands, even if it dares to carry out a land attack against them. They may conduct an attack with Marines and then retreat immediately. Remaining on the islands is impossible. Suppose they conquer our islands and manage to establish a presence; those islands will become their graveyard. If the United States dares to come on land, they will see the consequences of this foolish act with their own eyes." The same commander in the naval branch of Iran's Revolutionary Guards also told the newspaper that he is not optimistic about the continuation of the relative calm: "I predict that war between us and them will return in the near future because the United States does not fulfill its promises and agreements."
