🔺🔻Zarif: Washington cannot eliminate the political system of Iran / The collapse of the memorandum of understanding is not surprising / The leverage that the Strait provides for Iran is fragile / The United States must remove Iran and its institutions from the terrorism list and permanently lift all sanctions The former foreign minister in Foreign Affairs: 🔹 Iran and the United States have different interpretations of the provisions of the agreement, especially regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Nevertheless, the continuation of the conflict is neither beneficial to Iran nor the United States. 🔹 Washington and the Arab countries must accept that Iran is a lasting reality in the regional landscape. Iran must accompany its restored self-confidence by opening a dialogue of goodwill towards its neighbors and pursue security not only through deterrence but also through joint cooperation. 🔹 This war has forced Iran to view the Strait of Hormuz through the lens of its existential security. Nevertheless, the leverage that the Strait provides for Iran is fragile. Iran's threat to maritime traffic could mobilize a large part of the world against Iran. 🔹 Additionally, the continued closure of the Strait will accelerate international investments in pipelines, ports, and land logistical corridors that completely bypass this waterway. 🔹 If global markets successfully find alternative routes, Iran will no longer be able to use the possibility of closing the Strait as a deterrent. Therefore, Tehran must exercise restraint, just as other countries must avoid economic, political, and military actions that could jeopardize Iran’s interests in the Strait. 🔹 The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical focal point. However, it is not the only source of tension between Tehran and Washington. To stop the conflicts, Iran and the United States must manage their broader disagreements. 🔹 The United States must recognize Iran's territorial integrity, remove Iran and its institutions from terrorist lists, and permanently lift all sanctions. 🔹 Washington must also commit to participating in the reconstruction of the destruction caused by aggression, as it promised in the memorandum of understanding by creating a $300 billion investment fund for the country. 🔹 In return, Iran could agree to permanent guarantees against nuclear proliferation – such as approving the Additional Protocol of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which gives inspectors greater access to nuclear facilities. Iran could also enact the fatwa of the martyr leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei against nuclear weapons as law.
