English translation
The senior Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, leader of the largest political faction in Iraq, stated that "unchecked militias should not give our brothers in the Gulf states an excuse to attack our sacred land," in response to the Saudi attacks in Iraq last night—following Iraqi militia attacks towards Saudi Arabia. Al-Sadr said, "I condemn the attacks on Iraq's sacred territories from all states and entities, and I condemn the brazen actions of the militias aimed at dragging Iraq into a pointless war. I call on the Iraqi government to maintain security and assert sovereignty, as well as to take serious action to safeguard the security of the Iraqi people and holy sites, and not to get dragged into despicable sectarian conflicts."
