BREAKING: Iran has officially rejected Oman's Gulf-backed plan to jointly manage the Strait of Hormuz, declaring the southern Omani lane illegitimate and insisting the Strait of Hormuz must be managed solely by Iran including the collection of fees, a senior Iranian official told Reuters. Iran insists the entire inbound lane and part of the outbound route stay under Iranian control, and accuses the US and Saudi Arabia of pressuring Oman to push "unrealistic plans," that are far from reality and don’t serve Iran's national interests. The Omani proposal, modeled on the Strait of Malacca, would have let ships pay voluntary transit fees rather than give Iran sole control.
