⚡️ Exclusive | Iran’s control of Strait of Hormuz has disrupted US calculations: Official 📌 Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s authority in managing the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted US strategic calculations, while Washington’s claims about controlling the strategic waterway reflect a reaction to Iran’s initiatives, an Iranian Foreign Ministry official says. In an exclusive interview with IRNA on Saturday, Hossein Noushabadi, director general for parliamentary affairs and laws at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, described recent statements by US President Donald Trump about the Strait of Hormuz as a reaction to Iran’s strategic plan for ensuring the waterway’s security and sustainable development. Noushabadi said claims that the United States could declare the Strait of Hormuz part of its territory were inconsistent with international maritime law. He referred to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which establishes the rights and responsibilities of coastal states while recognizing a special legal regime for straits used for international navigation. The Iranian official also highlighted the Strait of Hormuz’s longstanding historical and economic importance, noting that it connects the Persian Gulf with the Sea of Oman and international waters and serves as a major route for global energy trade. He said Iran and Oman’s efforts to develop a mechanism for managing the strait during peacetime could strengthen Iran’s position. Noushabadi further argued that Iran’s strategic position around the Strait, combined with the global dependence on maritime trade through the waterway, has made Hormuz a significant strategic leverage point for Tehran. 📲 ​
