⚡️ Iran summons Ukrainian chargé d’affaires over attack on commercial vessel 📌 Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran following a military attack by Ukrainian forces on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea that killed one sailor and injured several others. The chargé d’affaires was summoned early on Sunday by Manouchehr Moradi, assistant foreign minister and director general for Eurasia, who conveyed Iran’s strong protest over the “hostile and criminal act.” ​ During the meeting, Moradi said the attack on an Iranian commercial ship in the Caspian Sea constituted a violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, amounted to an act of aggression, and posed “a clear threat to the security of all littoral states.” ​ He said the Ukrainian government must be held accountable for the incident and punish those responsible. ​ Moradi also stressed that the Islamic Republic would firmly defend its national security and interests and “will not leave attacks on the lives and property of its citizens unanswered.” ​ Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that Kiev had hit vessels that he claimed were used in military cargo shipments involving Iran, as well as a warship. ​ Denouncing the attack, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said it reflected Ukraine’s continued “irrational and hostile approach” towards Iran. ​ The ministry also described the attack as a violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter and “an act of aggression” with potential escalatory effects. 📲 ​
