🔊 Ukraine must compensate for attack on Iranian ship: Envoy 📌 Moscow, IRNA — Iran’s ambassador to Russia has called on Ukraine to compensate for all damages caused by its drone attack on the Iranian merchant ship Anna in the Caspian Sea, which killed one crew member and injured several others. Kazem Jalali told Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency on Wednesday that the attack was a “terrorist and criminal act” targeting a civilian vessel carrying commercial cargo under the Iranian flag. ​ The attack was a deliberate attack on a civilian ship carrying commercial cargo under the flag of Iran, he said. ​ Jalali said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has discussed the incident in phone calls with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov and the EU foreign policy chief, while Ukraine’s foreign minister apologized and provided explanations during a call with Araghchi. ​ He added that European countries and the US, as supporters of Ukraine, should also accept responsibility and hold Kyiv accountable for its actions. ​ The ambassador said Ukrainian officials have accepted responsibility for the attack and pledged that similar attacks on Iranian vessels would not happen again. ​ The privately owned Anna was struck by a Ukrainian drone while carrying rolled sheet iron in the Caspian Sea on July 11. 📲 ​
