📄 Foreign Ministry condemns US attack on Larak Island, reaffirms Iran’s right to self-defense 📌 Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned a US military attack on parts of Larak Island, saying the Iranian Armed Forces targeted American military bases in Jordan in exercise of the country’s inherent right to legitimate defense. The ministry said in a statement early Monday that the US military violated Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity by attacking parts of Larak Island late on Sunday, leaving several Iranian servicemen and civilians killed or wounded and causing damage to public and private property. “In response to this military aggression and in accordance with its inherent right to legitimate defense, the powerful Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran delivered defensive and crushing strikes against US military bases located in Jordan, which served as the launchpad and support for the US military aggression against Iran,” the statement said. The Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the US attack on Larak Island as a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter and called on the UN Security Council and the secretary-general to fulfill their responsibilities to safeguard international peace and security and hold the aggressor accountable. It also reminded the UN secretary-general, the president of the Security Council and all governments that have expressed concern over continued insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz that the sole cause of insecurity affecting maritime navigation in the region has been the illegal and aggressive actions of the United States and Israel. The ministry said those actions began with the war on Iran on February 28, and had continued over the past six months in various forms, including a naval blockade and other provocative and interventionist measures. The Foreign Ministry stressed that Iran’s Armed Forces would not hesitate to exercise the country’s inherent right to legitimate defense and would respond decisively and appropriately to any further military aggression. “The full responsibility for the consequences of the US’s new acts of aggression, as well as the continued naval blockade and economic war against Iran, rests with the US regime and all parties that, in any way, collude in or participate in preparing and carrying out the US’s illegal and unlawful measures,” the statement concluded. 📲
