💬 Exclusive | Beijing backs Iran’s sovereignty, seeks peace in West Asia: Chinese envoy 📌 Tehran, IRNA – The Chinese ambassador to Tehran says his country has always supported Iran’s efforts to defend its sovereignty and national interests, emphasizing Beijing’s willingness to play a constructive role in restoring peace and security to the West Asian region. Cong Peiwu made the remarks in a special note to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Iran and the 10th anniversary of the declaration of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. He said the West Asia region continues to face a series of serious crises, citing the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the recent US-Israeli aggression against Iran, Underlining China’s peace initiatives, he pointed to the recent comprehensive speech delivered by President Xi Jinping on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, saying the country’s mission has been to ensure the well-being of its nation as well as to support other nations striving for progress. He cited China’s role in the historic reconciliation and the Beijing Declaration signed by fourteen Palestinian groups, as well as China’s insistence on promoting peace and dialogue amid the US-Israeli-imposed wars on Iran, saying these steps were indications that China has strived to restore peace, stability, and development in the West Asia region. Stating that the region must move beyond the shadow of war and towards lasting peace, the Chinese ambassador once again referred to four major initiatives put forward by President Xi in April this year, emphasizing adherence to the principles of peaceful coexistence, respect for national sovereignty, international law, and coordination between development and security. He underlined that China, as a comprehensive strategic partner of Iran, has always taken a fair and responsible stance, resolutely opposing hegemonic aggression and illegal sanctions and pressure on the country, while at the same time supporting Iran’s efforts to maintain its sovereignty, security and national dignity. Stressing the need for the improvement of Iran’s relations with the Persian Gulf countries and other countries in the region, he said, “China is willing to play a constructive role in restoring peace and tranquility to the Middle East as soon as possible.” According to him, China has always stood on the right side of history, through self-reliance and continuous struggle, and with wisdom, solutions and capabilities, has had a profound impact on the process of global development. Describing the Communist Party of China as a key contributor to global peace and development, Cong noted that China seeks to build a community of mankind with a shared future, and has put forward initiatives aimed at solving major challenges facing human society, including security and governance. In his note, Cong also underscored China's international peacekeeping missions, saying that national defense modernization and capability upgrades—aimed at building a world-class army—are not only to defend the country’s national sovereignty and security, but also to contribute to safeguarding global peace and development. 📲
